Sample Mounting for PLX-Benchtop PIP Tests
In order to carry out a PIP test, your sample must have a support and indentation surfaces that are both flat and parallel within 2 degrees. Some samples may therefore benefit from being mounted prior to PIP testing.
- Hot mount – For samples that are not affected by temperatures reached during
hot mounting (~200°C), this form of mounting is preferable. - Cold mount – For samples that may be affected by temperatures reached during hot
mounting (~200°C).
For either method, try to keep the mounted sample aspect ratio below 1. A schematic of the ideal mounting arrangement is shown below.
