The sample should be placed on the HotPIP platen. The proposed test location should be approximately under the indentation axis, which coincides with the centre of the platen (marked with four lines and shown in the figure below).
The following points should be noted when this is done:
- For larger samples, care must be taken to not position the sample such that any part of it is outside the metal hotplate (30 mm diameter).
- The indent location should not be within 5 mm of an existing indent or 3 mm of a free edge for the 1 mm radius tip.
