What does the PLX-HotStage do?

High Temperature PIP

The PLX-HotStage is designed to be used with the PLX-Benchtop to extract metal stress-strain curves from indentation at temperatures of up to 800°C. There are three elements to the Hot PIP module:

  1. CORSICA HotStage – a local software application that controls the heating and cooling processes, the indentation process, the subsequent profilometry (measurement of the shape of the residual indent) and derives the stress-strain relationship using an inverse finite element method (iFEM).

  2. HotStage Electronics Box – a box for all the HotStage related electronics. It acts as an interface between CORSICA and the HotStage Equipment, allowing control of the heating and indentation processes.

  3. HotStage Equipment – the hardware required to run a controlled high temperature PIP test. The equipment has 3 parts: the heater assembly, indenter and peripherals (Fans, LVDT and Terminal box). The heater assembly is concentric on the load cell but is not fixed upon it. The peripherals are fixed on the baseplate and the indenter to the crosshead. The indenter has a floating design to accommodate different sample sizes.
