PIP Test Background

Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry (PIP) is a method for obtaining a material’s stress-strain curve from an indent profile by using inverse Finite Element Analysis (FEA). With PIP, you can obtain:

  • True Stress-Strain Curve
True stress-strain behaviour can be extracted, in a form described by the Voce constitutive law.
  • Nominal Stress-Strain Curve
The key nominal stress-strain data can be inferred, including yield stress, work hardening characteristics and the ultimate tensile stress (UTS).
  • Brinell Hardness
Brinell hardness can be measured in addition to the plasticity properties.
