Samples that do not meet the requirements and/or present a danger in loading/testing should not be tested. The sample should be well supported underneath the indenter and not be at risk of toppling under indentation load.
When indenting samples that approach the lower limit of lateral dimensions, it may be necessary to mount them. Additional information on sample mounting can be found here.
